You and I both know that your nonprofit organization (NPO) needs grant money to fund its projects and programs. But how do you secure this grant money?
You turn to people like me.
I’ve taken several adult education classes to develop and hone my grant writing and grant consulting skills. However, this is only one piece of the puzzle when looking for someone to partner with. I also have a genuine passion for helping people, and as an experienced freelance writer and editor, I believe that the best way for me to do it is through my words, which has led me to learn everything I can about grants and grant writing.
Types of NPOs I Enjoy Working With
I don’t have a specific niche that I’ve chosen to work with exclusively, though I do have certain causes and programs that I’m partial to, which include:
- Women’s issues and empowerment
- Mental health and other related topics
- Disability rights and advocacy
- Veteran’s rights, health, and advocacy
However, I am open to working with a variety of other NPOs as well. One of the most important things for me in my work is feeling a connection to the organization and its mission; without that inital connection, I feel that I have a hard time doing the organization justice in my grant applications.
Education and Experience
As I mentioned above, I have successfully completed several continuing education courses in the field of grant writing and grant cosulting. I have received a certificate from each of these classes, which you can view on my LinkedIn profile. While workinng through these courses, I not only learned the technical process of writing a grant, but also ethics and tools that are necessary for grant writers to espouse in their work.
While I have not worked with any NPOs as of yet (I wanted to finish my education before applying for jobs to ensure that I could put my best foot forward), I am beginning to actively search for opportunities which I will then add to this section. Keep an eye out for updates!
Services That I Offer
I offer several different grant-related services, including:
- Grant research. If your nonprofit is looking for available grants that you could potentially qualify and apply for, this service may be a good first step. I will conduct focused research into the opportunities in your specific niche and service area; after that, I will prepare a report with the top grants that I find based on your priorities.
- Foundation funding searches. This service is similar to grant research, though it only focuses on foundation funders (so no local, state, or federal calls for proposals will be shared). After my targeted research, I will create a report with the top foundation and business grants that fit your NPO’s priorities.
- Foundation proposal writing. This is the quintessential service that you think of when you start thinking about hiring a grant writer. I will research and look at the applications for foundation and business (not local, state, or federal) grants to figure out the best ways to position your nonprofit to hopefully get an award from that funder. I will then write to the application for funding using your NPO’s information and details. Please note: I cannot guarantee funding from any source at any point before, during, or after the writing process.
- Foundation proposal critique and review. If your nonprofit has a person (paid or volunteer) on staff who writes your proposals but you need/want a second pair of eyes to look over the writing and ensure that it meets foundation’s or business’s application standards, this is the service you’re looking for. I will look at the written application to determine its adherance to both foundation and industry standards. This service is often best paired with my “Proposal editing” service for a more full-service process after a grant application has been written.
- Proposal editing. This service is available for any type of proposal, whether it’s for a foundation, business, or local, state, or federal government entity. I will copyedit your already-written proposal to make sure that the language, writing style, tone, and grammar are on par with industry demands. As an experienced copyeditor and trained grant writer, I know what to look for in order to improve a piece of writing, as well as how to craft it to match the standards of various potential funders.
TL;DR
Grant writing is a specific set of technical skills.
Not everyone is cut out to work with NPOs, but I have the education and knowledge to prove that I am.
I’m passionate about women’s issues/empowerment, mental health, disability rights/advocacy, and veteran’s rights/health/advocacy.
However, I also take on various projects in other niches if I connect with their mission.
I offer several different services related to grants, with a specific focus on foundations and businesses.
